The 2017 Porsche Macan is giving other compact luxury SUVs a run for their money. The Macan has seen success because of its lower price tag that still includes much of what makes this brand famous. Even though it can be affordable for the regular Joe, it allows for a lot of upgrades that can make this vehicle unique to each owner.

What's New?Following in the footsteps of big brother Cayenne SUV, the Macan GTS has big shoes to fill – and it does. Starting at $68,250, the affordable base model is a great start, but the customizable packages are almost endless, which will up this price tag. It is a little light on cargo space and seating for four, especially since it is a hatchback, but upgrades under the hood make it a proper Porsche.

Exterior FeaturesThe GTS has a limited range of colors, some of which are exclusive to the model. For a sporty look, it has high-performance tires on 20-inch RS Spyder rims that have a matte black finish, as do all the exterior accessories. These larger wheels and tires enhance the capabilities of the Macan. The all-wheel drivetrain is top notch, with 70 percent torque sent to the rear wheels, though it can be up to 100 percent in the front or back, depending on road conditions.

Interior FeaturesThe inside also carries the sporty feel, with sport seats with the GTS emblem. The center console is equipped with the latest technology that is easy to use, and the ignition is on the left side of the steering wheel, which is a Porsche tradition. The brushed-aluminum trim enhances the inside features, though optional interior packages offer endless possibilities.

Hanid Tech

TechnologyThe latest infotainment system with Apple CarPlay is a touch-screen dream for the center console, and there are many upgrades that can make the Macan a real luxury. A navigation module will set you back about $1,700, and the Porsche Connect Plus adds an LTE modem for Wi-Fi for a cool $1,300. Some of the latest technology includes lane change assistance, lane keep assistance, and adaptive cruise control with Porsche Active Safe.

Engine/Fuel EfficiencyUnder the hood, the GTS has a twin-turbocharged V-6, taken from the Macan S, but with extra oomph of 360 horsepower. It isn’t a total sports car by any means, but has a more refined torque than the previous Macan S. It can be a little loud in the Sports setting, but without this mode it is more family-friendly and quiet. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a dual-clutch PDK gearbox.

SafetyThough not rated just yet, the 2017 Macan has the latest safety technology to ensure a safe drive. In addition to the normal airbags, it also has side impact airbags, overhead airbags, and knee airbags. Small safety measures include turn signal mirrors, daytime running lights, and dusk sensing headlamps. It also has the latest security system, and has an ignition disable device that will not allow the engine to start if the correct key is not used.
