Creative Car Mods That Will Definitely Turn Heads

December 4, 2022

We’ve all had that damage to our car that’s just too minuscule to fix. It doesn’t necessarily impact the function of our vehicles, so we can’t quite justify the cost of repairing it, let alone replacing any parts that might be affected by it. The car runs fine; it’s just, unfortunately, doing so in a suddenly more unsightly manner. That’s why we’ve put together this list of car mods that’ll help you make a little fun out of that damage, or even just add a little spice to your ride.

Give Your Wipers A Little Flex Power

Another great way you can use to add a little pizazz to your car can be to make a unique joke out of your wipers (preferably those on your rear wipers to minimize anything that could potentially distract you while driving). In the example you see here, we have found a crafty car owner who has turned their rear wiper into an Arnold Schwarzenegger who has the seemingly unending ability to flex for the cars behind him. (With the size of his biceps, that infinite flexing power of his doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch to us in reality.)

Keep Your Hood Ornament Warm

This mod is a subtle touch that adds just a little bit of character to your otherwise cool and collected ride. If you’re lucky enough to have a crafty person in the family, try asking them to knit up a little sweater to place on your hood ornament in the cooler months. Here you can see someone has done just that with a grey and blue striped getup for the hood ornament on his or her Jaguar. This can be a fun and subtle way of helping you identify your car in a crowd of others that might be similar, too.

Gut Your Cracked Bumper (And Then Fill It Up Again)

We probably don’t need to tell you that rust can easily do a number on our vehicles, sometimes cracking and chipping the fenders or bumpers on a car beyond repair. If that happens to you, you don’t have to leave that chunk missing in yours empty and gaping like so many other cars on the road. Instead, fill it up with your favorite little figurines or artifacts. In this picture, you can see one Disney fan has taken it upon himself to represent his favorite movies and shows with a few friendly faces to keep other drivers company out there.

Make Your Own Character Hubcap

Whether your hubcap was ripped off or it is merely damaged more than you care to admit, we have the perfect solution for you; cover it up in a way that represents you. One of our favorites comes in the wake of the resurgence of the Star Wars era and in the shape of our new favorite droid BB-8. All it takes is a custom-made sphere to attach over one of your wheels and then a little head attached right above it to give your car the look of having a friendly droid tagging along.

Give Your Gas A Little (Cat) Class

This mod is for all of our cat (or dog) lovers out there. We’re sure you’ve seen the decals available that show how many pets (and kids) you have, this is a unique spin on the same idea. We like this sticker that shows a hungry kitty waiting for you to fill up his bowl with food, which is conveniently placed over the cap to your gas tank. It’s a cute little way of showing all those driving around you that you love your pet, but also to make it a tiny bit more fun when it comes time to fill the tank up.

Side Mirror Mods

Modifications made to your side mirror can be particularly great if, for some reason, your mirror gets knocked a little loose (or gets torn off completely). Rather than settling for something that looks close enough to what you had but somehow just a tiny bit different, you could opt to take on a different look altogether for a replacement. Try something like this skeleton hand that was added to give the appearance of it holding that mirror out ever so helpfully to the side of your car. (It doesn’t have to be a skeleton if that’s a little too grim for your tastes.)

Simple Wit To Go The Miles

If all of these seem to be trying just a little too hard for your liking, this one is right up your alley. In this example, you can see a Volkswagen owner who has taken it upon himself to add a little piece of pink streamer to the grille of his car. When paired with his “SSSSSNEK” vanity license plate, it has just enough of the wit needed to make us see the resemblance between their car and, you guessed it, a snake. A little touch like that will certainly make other drivers turn around for a second look.

Hide A Dent WithA Decal

Maybe you got sideswiped, or perhaps you just opened your door in a place where you thought you had more room than you did. Either way, you’ve been left with a dent in a place you don’t want it. An easy and unique way to fix that can be to add a sort of custom decal that somehow incorporates the damage. Here you can see an owner using the dent in his door to add a little extra dimension to a hand-painted topographical map. It’s an easy way to conceal that dent while adding a little style to your car.

Kitty Wiper

Here is another take on the Arnold Schwarzenegger wiper friend mentioned earlier. Try adding a playful cat decal to your rear window that aligns perfectly, so the wiper appears to be the cat’s tail. Whenever a light sprinkle (or torrential downpour) heads your way, you’ll be taking care of that with style. While others are left to ward off the rain with their boring old black windshield wipers, your kitty friend will be leaving them in the cold as it takes care of you with this fun mod.

Blast Off With More Star Wars

We know that a lot of you are Star Wars fans, which brings us to our second mention of a Star Wars mod for your car. This one features a little more of a straightforward nod to the franchise, and all it takes is a one-way decal on your back window. Here you can see this owner’s car easily transformed into the Millennium Falcon with two of the franchise’s most iconic characters onboard, ready to fly through the cosmos together. It’s just a fun way to, again, draw the eyes of those around you with a little personal touch.

Give Your Car An X-Ray

Another one of the great decal ideas we have seen recently. This one is creating the illusion that those around you are seeing into your vehicle. This full car mod adds the image of an x-ray for your car and the driver instead of just your typical single color coat of paint. While it would be perfectly suited for an x-ray technician parking at a hospital, it’s not exclusively for them. This mod is sure to draw the eyes of anyone around you regardless of your profession or where you park it.

Steampunk On Fleek

This is another full body car mod that might be more suiting to your particular tastes. Here you can see someone has transformed their older model Volkswagen beetle not only into the iconic model from the classic Herbie film franchise but has also taken it another step further to break it down into a semi-steampunk version as well. This mashup of fandoms gives this mod an extra level of sophistication that we’re sure will impress anyone who sets eyes on it. The added rust effect near the front is also a nice additional detail to the mod.

Patrick Star Makes A Happy Hubcap

To spruce up a fading hubcap, or to just add a personalized touch to your new car, we’ve got the perfect mod for fans of Spongebob Squarepants. The traditionally shaped hubcap found on most cars is perfectly suited for Spongebob’s star-shaped friend, Patrick Star. Just paint it pink, add some shorts and you’re good to go. But don’t forget to add his face to make the reference clear to other drivers so they can appreciate it. (The choice of facial expression is entirely up to you, but here you can see that a happy Patrick makes a very cheery hubcap.)

Repurpose Rugs As Floormats

Remember those old rugs you used to have in your home as a kid that laid out an entire city complete with streets and buildings? Well, look at how this car owner has repurposed those same rugs to make this car her own. This same look can easily be achieved with any old carpet you have lying around, as long as the gripping on the underside is enough to hold it in place efficiently and to keep it from riding up underneath your brake or gas pedal. It adds a little nostalgia to make driving a bit more fun.

Brighten Up Your Dashboard

This modification is a great way to add just a subtle hint of color to your car’s dashboard while also making driving at night more interesting. All you need to do is place colored post-it notes between the glass or plastic covering over your speedometer or odometer and there you have it. You can use any colors you choose, but here you can see how someone has opted to give a rainbow effect to their dash readouts. This is a mod that’s entirely for you, but is still sure to impress any passengers you may have on board.

Channel Your Inner Van Gogh

Full body car decals can be quite hard to pull off a lot of the time, but there is always one that can be used to suit your particular tastes and style. This one in particular probably appeals to the more artistic of our readers and showcases one of the most famous paintings in art history: Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. This car owner has even taken into account how the car looks when viewed from above, incorporating the design onto not only the hood but also the roof to really give the full effect of the painting while driving around town.

Taking Commitment To A Whole New Level

This example is one of the more unique mods that we have been able to find, and that is mostly thanks to the fact that the car’s owner took it upon herself to hand paint (or, more accurately, to hand draw with marker) the entire thing herself. Here you can see the process develop as she started at the rear of her car and then subsequently made her way forward until the whole body of her vehicle was covered in the intricate handcrafted design. Even a design half as detailed as this would still be sure to turn heads.

Boho Tire Cover

In this example, you can see how intricate designs like the one seen previously can also be done on a smaller scale. This car owner has chosen to limit their design to the covering of their spare tire on the rear of their car. This one happens to be a woven netting of some type that they’ve used to replace the generic black cover that may have come with their car originally, or to merely serve as a cover they did not receive with the car. Either way, it’s a nice personalized touch that also performs an important function.
