With its sleek design and luxurious feel, the new 2017 Lincoln MKZ further distances itself from similar Ford models. Although it still shares the same platform as the Ford Fusion, Lincoln hopes its advanced technology and interior/exterior improvements will be worth the increase in price. With a five star safety rating and high power engine, Lincoln delivers a new meaning to the mid-size luxury sedan.

What's New?

The MKZ features an all-new engine with four hundred horse power and optional rear end torque-vectoring. It is the first of its brand to feature a fresh design language, a high-output engine and a signature grill. The view from behind the vehicle is nearly the same with a slightly wider appearance and revised bumper. The MKZ also features the latest version of Ford’s parking assist system to easily navigate in and out of parallel parking spots.

Exterior Features

The MKZ is the first Lincoln to feature the brand’s signature grille with available light-emitting diode headlight options and a Lincoln ‘welcome mat,’ which protrudes down from the side mirrors when the vehicle is unlocked in the dark. The anterior of the vehicle is slightly wider than previous versions and sports a revised bumper. Lincoln’s Driver’s Package features nineteen inch wheels, Ebony painted calipers with matching interior seats and pedal covers, and a light Magnetic painted grille.

Interior Features

Inside the MKZ, drivers can enjoy a revised center console with aluminum trimming and a climate control option. Buttons and knobs replaced the touch sliding controls. According to Lincoln, engineers paid extra attention to the feel and sound of its interior switches. The seats are high quality, spacious and comfortable. Two of the four high speed universal serial bus charging ports are available to passengers in the back seat. Customers have their choice between two Revel Harman/Kardon systems featuring either a fourteen or twenty speaker sound system.

Technology

Technology was a large part of the MKZ upgrade. It includes all-speed adaptive cruise control and emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Auto hold allows the vehicle to come to a complete stop without the driver having to press and hold the brake pedal. Thanks to Ford’s latest park assist system, the MKZ easily accesses perpendicular and parallel parking. The MKZ also features the MyLincoln Mobile app for remote start and locking with the touch of a button from a smartphone app.

Engine/Fuel Efficiency

The MKZ features an all new 3.0 liter, six cylinder engine and four hundred horse power with four hundred pounds/foot torque. Models that have front wheel drive, six cylinder options are limited to only three hundred and fifty horsepower but boast the same about of torque. Front wheel drive, two cylinder versions earn thirty one miles per gallon on the highway and twenty one in the city. A hybrid version is available with a two liter engine, two hundred and forty five horsepower, two cylinder engine and front wheel drive with forty miles per gallon.

Safety

The MKZ earned a five star rating for its safety features, which includes a four star rollover rating and a ten point nine percent rollover risk. Popular safety features include two front head seats, child seat anchors, dusk sensing headlights, and an engine immobilizer. Other safety features found in the MKZ are tire pressure monitors, a post-collision safety system, auto delay off headlights, traction control, rear door safety locks, and a remote anti-theft alarm system.
