Are you into speed, power, sleek design and have an extra $103,000-plus in the bank? Excellent for city driving and designed to follow other SUV’s, the 2016 X6 M offers sport and luxury in one. The interior offers a combination of Merino leather and fine-wood trim, while the exterior’s sleek design lends well to precise handling. Integrating high-tech device integration and safety features, the price tag is justified for those drivers looking for the reputation backed by BMW.

What's New?

Described as a cross between a sleek SUV and luxury car, the 2016 BMW X6 M is packed with performance power with the same twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter, V8 engine as its predecessors, the M5 and X5 M, but boasts an amped up horsepower of 567 from 6,000 to 6,500 rpm and 553 lb.-ft. of torque. New is an eight-speed transmission, allowing drivers to easily switch between automatic and standard at the touch of a paddle behind the steering wheel.

Exterior Features

BMW took the M to the next level, adding specific features unique to this model. The vehicle’s aerodynamics have been enhanced with a slight overhaul of the front end, adding inlets to the air intake. Side gills, folding door mirrors and four tail pipes contribute to the sleek design, performance and handling. The alloy wheels are M-specific, with six-piston calipers in the front and single in the rear, and come with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires.

Interior Features

With room for five and a spacious 26.6 cubic foot trunk, the BMW X6 M provides a comfortable ride for both the driver and passengers. Right from the three-spoke sport steering wheel, drivers have quick access to a color touch screen dash display. This ConnectedDrive includes temperature control, voice control and the latest in entertainment options. Digital display ensures details are easy to see at a glance and push button functions add to the driver’s convenience.

Technology

Quick access to information and entertainment is mounted on the dashboard where passengers can customize radio stations, search for traffic information and directions and log on to the internet. Drivers can drive in confidence with parking sensors, keyless ignition, a rear-view camera and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Plenty of options are available, including USB ports and Bluetooth, smartphone needs, and a sound-optimized speaker system.

Engine/Fuel Efficiency

Standard on every BMW, the manufacturer’s EfficientDynamics Technology promises “better performance, greater efficiency and a heightened driving experience. Fuel efficiency is optimized with the automatic Start/Stop feature, saving fuel when the vehicle is not moving. The 85L tank gets 16.6L per 100 km of city driving and 12.1L per 100 km on the highway. BMW’s innovative Brake Energy Regeneration takes a new approach to unused energy. Electricity from coasting is transferred to the battery, maintaining its charge while allowing the alternator to take a break. It helps with fuel efficiency by deactivating the generator during acceleration.

Safety

With safety in mind, BMW has equipped the X6 M with the standard airbags in the front, side and head. The Active Roll Stabilization system helps with handling by using sensors to detect the amount of body roll while cornering and reduces it through communications with other systems to coordinate the front and rear anti-roll bars as necessary. Similarly, the Dynamic Stability Control senses oversteering, maintains control and enhances traction in challenging conditions.
