With its legendary name brand and unmatched sleek design, Cadillac has always been a cut above the rest. But when compared to similar models such as Jaguar and BMW, the 2017 XT5 lacks power and efficiency. For those looking for a classy upgrade to the family minivan for sporting kids and lots of groceries, the Cadillac XT5 may be the perfect fit.

What's New?

General improvements to the Cadillac’s best selling model includes a wider wheelbase by two inches for improved driving conditions, interior improvements such as top-notch leather designs, and cool new technology features like a camera mounted on the lift-gate with available packages. The new XT5 is also lighter than previous models giving it a quicker take off and making it more fuel efficient. Its smaller engine is one of the few complaints many reviewers had.

Exterior Features

The outward appearance of the 2017 Cadillac XT5 is stunning. Buyers have their pick of four trim colors including luxury, premium luxury, base (XT5) and platinum. It comes with standard eighteen inch wheels, light-emitting diode daytime lights, and automatic headlights. Going with the platinum trim option gets you twenty inch wheels. The larger platform of the upgraded model is two inches wider and helps give the XT5 a smoother, more comfortable ride without looking bulky.

Interior Features

The inside of the vehicle is well recognized as an improvement. It includes plenty of leather, real wood and metal-brushed surfaces for a delicate look. The front seats are ventilated, padded and heated for ultimate comfort with extra support padding options. The spacious interior provides adequate leg room for taller passengers and contains a larger cargo hold than many competitor vehicles. Reviewers reported problems with the electronic shifter, which requires more effort than necessary to put the vehicle in reverse.

Technology

Technology improvements in the XT5 include four G connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also features key-less ignition and entry, as well as a remote engine start for warming up or cooling down the leather interior on hot or cold days. Voice commands allow the driver to change settings within the vehicle while keeping both hands on the steering wheel and off the eight inch central touch screen. On-star is an added feature of the XT5 as is a Bose eight speaker sound system with satellite radio.

Engine/Fuel Efficiency

The XT5 features a 3.6 liter, six cylinder engine with twenty four valves and 310 horsepower, which is slightly lower than competitor models. Reviewers noted that despite the lack of power, the smooth ride of the XT5 gets the job done but experienced some problems with shifting during normal traffic rituals such as merging onto the highway. The XT5 boasts an 18 and 26 mile per gallon rating in city traffic and on the highway, respectively.

Safety

The XT5 comes with several standard safety features including traction, stability control, anti-lock brakes, front and curtain airbags, On-star support to include crash notification, driver knee airbag, remote door unlocking and assistance if the vehicle is stolen. The XT5 also includes on-demand roadside assistance for emergencies. Opting for the Driver Awareness package upgrades you to forward collision alert, a distance indicator, lane departure warnings, pedestrian detection and a vibrating seat when the vehicle drifts.
